REGEN System — Regenerative Energy Recovery

Regenerative energy recovery. Up to 15% energy savings.

What It Is

The REGEN (Regenerative) System is an electric drive technology that recovers the energy generated during motor braking and reversal cycles, feeding it back to the plant’s electrical grid. In conventional systems, this energy is wasted as heat through braking resistors. The REGEN system captures and reuses this energy, reducing operating costs and improving overall plant efficiency.

How It Works

During braking and shaft reversal, the shredder motors act as generators, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy. The REGEN system captures this energy and returns it to the plant grid. The process is continuous and fully automatic — no operator intervention required.

Key Benefits

Up to 15% reduction in energy costs: depending on the duty cycle and material processed. In continuous operations with multiple reversals per hour, the savings are measurable on the energy bill.

Peak demand reduction: smooths power spikes during starts and reversals, reducing contracted demand and avoiding penalty charges for exceeding demand limits. Enables optimization of the utility contract.

Lower electrical grid stress: reduces current peaks and load fluctuations, extending the service life of transformers, cables, and circuit breakers. Less electrical maintenance and higher reliability.

Return on investment: in continuous operations (24/7), typical payback occurs within 18 to 24 months. For operations with high reversal frequency, ROI can be even faster.

Sustainability: lower energy consumption means lower CO2 emissions. Contributes to ESG targets and corporate sustainability goals.

Compatible Models

Available as an optional feature for:

  • Pre-Shredders: PR4000 (224 kW / 300 hp), PR5000 (298 kW / 400 hp)

  • Quad-Shaft Shredders: Q3600 (2x 56 kW), Q4600 (2x 93 kW), Q5300 (2x 149 kW), Q6900 (2x 186 kW)

Application Example

Illustrative scenario for a Q5300 shredder (2x 149 kW) in continuous 24/7 operation:

ParameterValue
Installed power2x 149 kW (200 hp each)
Operating regime24 h/day, 22 days/month
Average reversal cycle12 reversals/hour
Estimated monthly consumption (without REGEN)~157,000 kWh
Energy recovered by REGEN~10–15% of braking energy
Estimated monthly savingsDependent on local energy tariff
Estimated payback18 to 24 months

Note: Estimated values for reference purposes. Actual savings depend on duty cycle, material processed, reversal frequency, and local energy tariff. Jaguar Industrial’s engineering team provides a customized feasibility analysis for each project.

The REGEN system is recommended for continuous operations (24/7), materials requiring frequent reversals, plants with high contracted demand, and operations seeking to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
